The Picts
“Rock out”
- Era
- Iron Age Scotland
- Provenance
- North of the wall, on purpose
- Medium
- Woad-blue relief print, square format
- Edition
- Unconquered edition
Rome built two walls to keep these four men out, which the four men interpreted as a compliment. The lead figure is hoisting a rock — the Picts' primary export, argument, and musical instrument. No Pictish written records survive, possibly because writing things down was considered a sign of weakness.
Square-format impression; the title block sits close to the upper trim and shows minor cropping. Original as issued.
