Cautionary Tales · Stop No. 80
Medusa
“Look away, darling”
- Era
- Mythic Greece
- Provenance
- The temple of Athena, then exile
- Medium
- Single-color print on parchment
- Edition
- Study collection — second state
Second state of the Medusa broadside, cut after visitor feedback on the first. The mirror is now unambiguous, and cracked — it saw her before you did. Her eyes are open in this state. The rope line is not decorative.
Conservator’s note: second state of the composition. The mirror now reads as a mirror, cracked from the inside. The bicycle wheel has been retired from the collection’s discourse. Tagline still prints twice; at this point the conservators suspect emphasis.
